Thoughts On Yoga Part 3

Yes.

Such a tiny word filled with so much possibility!
Say the word out loud....a few times.
What does that feel like in your body?
I feel expansive, grounded, light, full & open simultaneously.
Saying yes makes me feel alive.

Especially during the cold, winter months, when our bodies are hunched over and closed off to try & conserve our body heat, I believe it's vitally important to say a big, fat YES a few times a day. It keeps our hearts open, softens our shoulders, releases tension. It's similar to taking a big, full body stretch or a giant yawn, you know the kind that starts all the way down in your toes?

Saying no can feel easier, safer. But really, I think it makes us small. It keeps us stuck in whatever spot we're in, especially the ones that don't feel good. The kind we want to vacate. The illusion of safety keeps us stuck in places, jobs, with people that no longer serve us. Maybe we've realized that the situation is toxic, maybe we've outgrown the place, or maybe we've cultivated healthy, new behaviors and no longer have the same interests. 

But in order to move forward, we have to take risks, try new things and that involves saying yes.

Next time you're on your mat or in class, try making yes your intention. What can you say yes to in your practice? On or off your mat, making your daily intention a resounding YES will crack you open to a world you never imagined!
