Out with the Old...

***Happy 2017!***

Fresh, new, sparkly year....how has yours started? If you're anything like me, this is the time of year when I recommit to my health and wellness. Post holiday festivities, maybe you're feeling a little heavy, lethargic, unwell, not as perky & energetic as you'd like to feel. Or...maybe you're carrying around residual holiday stress....family stuff, realizing exactly how much you spent this Christmas or Hannukah. Ate too much, drank too much, partied too much? You're not alone!

Self care tends to be shifted to the back burner at the very time when we need it most. That's why it's so important and necessary to establish rituals that support your physical and mental health all year long. 

Over the past year, I have gained weight and, for more than the obvious aesthetic reasons, I am not feeling great in my body at the moment. What?! But, you're a yoga teacher...you might be saying to yourself. Yup....I am a yoga teacher, as well as a yoga student, and a 50 year old woman. AND...I know it's time to make some changes so that I can feel better about myself and the way that I show up for myself, my students, and my life. One of the beautiful things about yoga is that the practice meets you wherever you are! Beginner, seasoned practitioner, senior, pre or post natal, kids....there's a practice that's perfect for you. Every time you roll out your mat, your practice will change. No two are ever alike because we are ever evolving, growing, changing.

The most important is to practice safely. Listen to your body--that's your best teacher! Tune in to your breath and listen to what your body has to tell you. What does it need today? Maybe you need a vigorous practice or maybe 20 minutes in savasana is what is calling to you.

Yoga is the perfect compliment to any physical activity you might already enjoy.
